Losi Micro-T: tiny RC truck, full-sized distraction

Losi Micro-T RC vehicle — manufacturer product photograph

The Losi Micro-T is a small RC stadium truck with the potential to make “I’m just clearing a bit of floor” sound deeply suspicious. A few markers appear. A chair moves. Twenty minutes later there’s a circuit and someone has strong opinions about the final corner. Very normal household behaviour.

The appeal is convenience: less travelling, less carrying and more opportunities to squeeze RC into the gaps. A suitable small space can provide a proper little driving challenge. It still needs to be clear, agreed with the people using it and appropriate for the model. The furniture did not apply to become a crash barrier.

Small box, plenty going on

The current LOS-1392 is a 1/28 rear-wheel-drive truck with a 65T brushed motor, Spektrum combined controller and receiver, and SLT2 radio. The manufacturer lists a 7.4V 350mAh 2S LiPo, USB-C charger and transmitter batteries in the box. It also has an aluminium chassis and oil-filled shocks. Check the charger power-source requirements before the first session.

The 13 mph figure in our highlight comes from RC Driver’s published description, not an RCnews GPS test. In a compact space, the practical point is how much room you have to turn and stop. A small number on paper can still feel lively when the available straight is only a few metres long.

At this scale, the useful question is how much room you have to steer and stop. A speed that sounds modest on paper can feel lively when the straight is measured in a few metres. Perspective does funny things; so does a table leg that appears at exactly the wrong moment.

RC terms used in this guide: ready-to-run (RTR) means the model is assembled; check which equipment is supplied. An electronic speed controller (ESC) controls motor power. LiPo means lithium-polymer battery, and the S number describes cells in series. Kv is approximate unloaded motor revolutions per minute per volt, not vehicle speed.

WHY IT STANDS OUT

Small-space RC fun, ready built

The Losi Micro-T is a small RC stadium truck for suitable indoor spaces and short driving sessions. It is worth a look when storage, travel or the weather make a larger truck awkward to use. Clear some space and check the surface first. The furniture has not volunteered to be a crash barrier.

That does not mean every room is automatically a track. You still need a clear area, a suitable surface and the agreement of whoever shares the space. But the prospect is attractive: less packing, less travel and more chances to enjoy the hobby between the rest of life’s jobs.

The packaging observations are particularly worth noting if you’re imagining extras or organised racing. A small truck has a small amount of spare room, and a component doesn’t shrink because you’re very keen to fit it. Ask about actual space before buying accessories.

Build a course you can use, not a domestic incident

Start simple: a clear surface, soft markers, generous turns and room away from stairs, pets and passing feet. You want to learn the truck, not create an elaborate obstacle course and immediately discover that half of it was a bad idea.

Keep the layout easy to reset. If every lap requires rebuilding a corner, the convenient little RC session becomes a furniture-removal business. Soft boundaries and a route everybody can understand are enough to get going.

Try three clean laps without touching a marker. Then reverse the direction. The same space suddenly asks different things of your hands, and the corner you’d been boasting about becomes awkward again. An excellent, low-cost treatment for premature confidence.

Small driving rewards small inputs

Give yourself time to find the steering response on the chosen surface. Watch where the truck is going next, rather than staring only at where it is now. You’ll begin to join the course together instead of treating every corner as a separate surprise.

When a lap goes wrong, notice the cause. Were you too quick on the approach, late on the brakes or simply distracted by how funny the little thing looks moving around? That last one is understandable. Still doesn’t get you through the corner, though.

You don’t need maximum pace to make it absorbing. Accuracy is a useful challenge, especially in a compact area. A tidy run gives you something to repeat and improve, whereas constant collisions mainly tell you that you’ve found the boundaries successfully.

Let somebody else find the grin

Show a new driver the controls and stopping before handing over. Choose a suitable reduced throttle setting and follow the age and supervision guidance. Give them a straightforward route, not a tricky examination designed by someone who’s already had three batteries of practice.

Take turns and keep the challenge light. You can time clean laps if everyone wants to, or simply try the same section. The good moment is when someone makes a deliberate turn and immediately wants another go. That’s how a tiny truck can create a much larger interest in RC.

There’s no need to narrate every mistake. Most people can tell when they’ve hit the marker. A useful suggestion helps; a running commentary from the self-appointed living-room race director may be less welcome.

Fancy making it a club thing?

If organised micro-RC racing interests you, ask a local club about classes and equipment. A racing-style truck isn’t automatically eligible for every meeting. Check what is supported, whether there’s a newcomer session and what extra equipment would be required.

The limited installation room mentioned in the review is a reason to investigate transponder arrangements early. Better to get an answer before buying than discover the plan depends on persuading two solid objects to share the same space.

Casual driving is also a complete use for the model. You’re not obliged to turn a fun evening into a formal sporting commitment. Sometimes a small course and a few good laps are exactly enough.

The carpet is a parts thief

Use a tray and decent light for maintenance. Photograph unfamiliar assemblies and keep screws grouped. Tiny hardware can cross from “right there” to “gone forever” with remarkably little encouragement, especially on a patterned carpet.

Check axles and wheels for hair or fibres after indoor use. A model can look clean while winding material around a moving part. Free movement and a secure body attachment deserve a look even if the shell still seems ready for its product photograph.

Keep the battery instructions with the charging equipment and follow them. Confirm exact dimensions and connections when buying extra packs; the word Micro is not a universal compatibility standard. Losi has made different little vehicles, and a familiar name can still lead to the wrong item.

Our take on the Micro-T

If weather, storage or travel keeps interrupting your larger RC outings, a small truck on a suitable course is an appealing alternative to simply waiting. It won’t do the same job as a big model on rough ground, and it doesn’t need to.

The reason to choose it is getting more actual driving into the week. Clear the space, agree the course and enjoy how seriously you can become absorbed in something so small. Then put the furniture back. Apparently that bit is also part of the session.
